An Alpharetta city councilwoman was arrested for driving under the influence Saturday night after rear-ending another vehicle in the north Fulton County city, police said.
Councilwoman Debbie Gibson, 52, was driving a silver Infiniti that struck a Toyota Corolla in the rear about 11:20 p.m. on Old Milton Parkway at Morris Road, Alpharetta police spokesman Justin Wilson said.
Wilson said the driver of the Corolla complained of a minor injury, but didn’t request medical treatment.
While investigating the wreck, the officer detected an odor of alcohol coming from Gibson, Wilson said. He said the officer conducted field sobriety tests, “and felt he had probable cause to place her under arrest.” She cooperated with the officer and was arrested without incident, Wilson said.
Wilson said Gibson registered a blood alcohol content of .18, more than double the .08 level that constitutes legal intoxication in Georgia.
Gibson posted her own bond Sunday morning and was released from jail, Wilson said. He didn’t know the amount of the bond, but said Alpharetta mayor Arthur Letchas gave Gibson a ride home after she was released.
