Duluth Police Department received the "Departmental DUI Hero Award"
DULUTH, GA - (March 26, 2007) - On Friday, March 23, MADD Georgia held its 3rd annual law enforcement recognition luncheon at the Macon Coliseum. The Duluth Police Department received the "Departmental DUI Hero Award" for having the highest number of DUI arrests out of any agency our size in the entire state. In the year 2006, Duluth officers arrested an astonishing 654 impaired drivers! A plaque, which was presented to Police Chief Randy Belcher, will be kept in the awards display case at the police department. A "congratulations" and "great job" goes out to all the officers who contributed to this number. Keep up the good work! You are making a difference.
Duluth's HEAT Officers Joe Tomalka and Bobby Johnson were also recognized for being among a select group of officers with the highest number of DUI arrests in the state (256 and 250 respectively). A "great job" goes to those two for never giving up on keeping the streets of Duluth safe, and for performing their duties with such professionalism and concern for our community.
One of MADD's top honors went to Officer Bobby Johnson who received the "Statewide Officer of the Year Award". This is one of the most prestigious awards given out by MADD Georgia, and Bobby was chosen out of many nominees. He was presented the award by the National MADD President among a standing ovation by hundreds of law enforcement officers. Congratulations, and we thank you for your endless drive and determination in keeping impaired drivers off our streets.
