A Northeast Georgia State Patrol Troop just received an award from the Governor's Challenge.
Each year, the governor gives a law enforcement agency an award for excellence in service.
They are judged on effort as well as community programs each troop participates in.
Troop B includes Athens, Gainesville, Blue Ridge, Cumming, and Toccoa.
According to the sergeant, the Toccoa Post helped win the award with several activities last year, including child safety seat programs and DUI patrols.
Sgt. Scott Andrews, from the Toccoa GSP tells NewsChannel 32, “No matter what the circumstances are or what we ask them to do, they're out. They have conducted several safety checks in the rain and on their efforts, they're to be commended.”
Each post in Troop B won $1,000.
According to Andrews, they bought a new radar unit with their money.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office won the award last year.
